Sovereign Cinema
The Sovereign Cinema was built in 1990 and in keeping with the historic face of Gympie the complex was designed and constructed to reflect Gympie's heritage.
The name "Sovereign" which is in keeping with Gympie's gold mining history, was decided upon by the winner of a "Name the Cinema" competition.
Gympie is heralded as Queenslands historic town - The town that saved Queensland from bankruptcy due to drought and low wool prices back in the 1800s - all thanks to James Nash who discovered gold in 1867 where the Gympie Town Hall now stands.
With this in mind Paul McKeown and his business partners built the Sovereign Cinema. They ran the Sovereign Cinema for a period of ten years before selling in 2000. In the ensuing nine years the Sovereign Cinema has had two other owners.
Paul, Lesley and sons Nicholas and Dylan have taken over the running of the Sovereign Cinema once more.
You can now once again look forward to those all night Movie Marathons - Theme Nights - Ladies Nights - School Groups - Fund Raisers for community groups, sporting clubs etc.
In general we will be working with the community as a whole.
